ARPC launches inaugural Reconciliation Action Plan

ARPC launches inaugural Reconciliation Action Plan

17 February 2025

ARPC is proud to launch its inaugural Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) today to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples across industry and government.

ARPC’s RAP (Nov 2024 – Jan 2026) has been endorsed by Reconciliation Australia and recognised as a Reflect RAP, which includes practical actions to help drive the contribution to reconciliation within ARPC and in the communities in which it operates.

ARPC Chief Executive, Dr Christopher Wallace, said the latest RAP brings together ARPC’s existing work and details the initiatives that it will undertake as part of a formal reconciliation journey.

“This Reflect RAP provides the foundation for ARPC to deepen our understanding and respect for our First Nations rich history, cultures and achievements and promote sustainable opportunities within our sphere of influence,” said Dr Wallace.

“With the inception of the cyclone pool, we have a unique opportunity to understand the impact of cyclone events to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. This includes working across and connecting with government, the insurance industry and Australian communities, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.”

The key themes for action in ARPC’s Reflect RAP include:

  • Improve awareness of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, their cultures, and histories.
  • Understand First People’s perspectives of climate and get their input into resilience and how to use data to mitigate climate change impacts.
  • Understand barriers to affordable insurance within ARPC’s area of responsibility.
  • Support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities through business opportunities, employment, and other support.
  • Educate and support employees by providing tools and templates to assist reconciliation and raise awareness of past issues relevant to our places of operation.
