ARPC appoints Cameron Hick as Chief Underwriting Officer

19 June 2026

Australian Reinsurance Pool Corporation (ARPC) has appointed Cameron Hick as its next Chief Underwriting Officer, following a thorough market process.

Mr Hick has commenced as Chief Underwriting Officer Designate, and will work closely with current Chief Underwriting Officer Michael (Mike) Pennell PSM to ensure an orderly transition.

Mr Hick brings almost 30 years of experience in the global reinsurance market and has held leadership positions across underwriting, client management, broking and portfolio strategy. Since joining ARPC in July 2024 as Head of Technical Underwriting, he has led technical underwriting across the terrorism and cyclone pools. His previous experience includes roles with Munich Re in Australia and Germany, PartnerRe in Switzerland, and reinsurance broking positions with Willis Re, Gallagher Re and Aon.

ARPC Chief Executive Officer Dr Christopher Wallace said the appointment positions ARPC strongly for the future.

“Cameron brings deep technical expertise and a strong understanding of ARPC’s remit and the broader insurance landscape. His experience within the organisation and across the market positions him well to lead our underwriting function into its next phase,” Dr Wallace said.

Mr Hick said he was focused on building on ARPC’s strong foundations.

“I’m proud to step into this role at an important time for ARPC. My focus will be on further strengthening our capability, working closely with insurers and ensuring the terrorism and cyclone pools remain efficient and effective,” he said.

Mr Hick will succeed Mr Pennell, who will commence leave on 14 September 2026 before retiring on 27 November 2026.

“Mike has made a significant and lasting contribution to ARPC, strengthening our underwriting capability and our relationships across the market. On behalf of the organisation, I thank him for his longstanding contribution and leadership,” Dr Wallace said.
