Opportunity to be involved

Reporting to the Executive Manager, Underwriting Cyclone, this role contributes to efficient underwriting processes, supports ARPC’s systems, partners with Actuarial, IT and Finance, and provides business insights that strengthen ARPC’s decision‑making and operational performance.

Role responsibilities

  • Support underwriting operations by managing cedant interface systems and user access.
  • Assist with the onboarding of new cedants and products, ensuring accurate setup, guidance on processes, and ongoing support.
  • Provide training and support to cedants for premium reporting and maintain strong customer service to external stakeholders.
  • Prepare high quality departmental reports and insights, including analysis of trends, risks, and underwriting performance.
  • Coordinate exception report investigations, resolve anomalies, and conduct testing on ARPC applications.
  • Manage routine underwriting queries and work with subject matter experts on complex matters.
  • Maintain accurate records of cyclone reinsurance arrangements for all cedants.
  • Apply sound risk management principles on a day-to-day basis and support compliance with contractual obligations.
  • Build collaborative internal relationships across Actuarial, Claims, IT and Finance, and represent Underwriting in cross functional initiatives.

Candidate Attributes

Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualification in Finance, Business or Commerce — Desired
  • ANZIIF Senior Associate qualification or willingness to work toward it — Mandatory

Experience

  • Experience in the insurance or reinsurance industry — Mandatory
  • Working knowledge of insurance, reinsurance or financial services systems — Mandatory
  • Minimum 3 years’ underwriting or claims experience — Desired 

Technical capabilities

  • Strong mathematical capability and comfort working with complex datasets.
  • Knowledge of insurance or reinsurance treaty arrangements.
  • High attention to detail, strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to build effective internal and external relationships.
  • Proficiency across MS Office (including intermediate Excel).
  • Commercial acumen, initiative, and ability to work both autonomously and as a team member.

 Note

The role is based in Sydney CBD, and you must be an Australian citizen and be able to obtain the Australian Government’s baseline security clearance successfully.
