Artificial Intelligence (AI) Transparency Statement

Australian Reinsurance Pool Corporation’s (ARPC) AI Transparency Statement has been developed in accordance with the Digital Transformation Agency’s (DTA) Policy for responsible use of AI in government.

Intentions Behind AI Adoption

ARPC’s use of AI is limited to the development of use cases internally, focused on improving operational efficiencies, advancing our data analytics capabilities and improving decision making in line with ARPC’s strategic priorities as outlined in our Corporate Plan. (DTA domains of Corporate and Enabling, and Workplace Productivity and Analytics for Insight *).

*Please see Classification system for AI use for more information on usage patterns related to AI in agencies.

How we use AI

  • Our current AI use case is limited to the adoption of Microsoft 365 Copilot Web (Copilot) to improve workplace productivity.
  • The use of Copilot is strictly limited to public data access only, with no access to ARPC’s internal information. ARPC staff can manually upload specific documents to Copilot, ensuring human oversight and control.
  • Copilot is used to improve internet search capabilities, as well as draft efficiency and software code writing.
  • We do not use AI in our direct engagement with external stakeholders, including insurers or any government bodies.

Monitoring and Accountability

  • All AI initiatives are assessed for risk and compliance and overseen by the Chief Operating Officer (COO), who is, ARPC’s designated Accountable Officer for AI use.
  • ARPC employees are required to undertake training on the appropriate use of AI prior to enabling their access to any AI tools and on an ongoing basis, as required.
  • Usage of AI systems is monitored through our governance frameworks which oversee the effectiveness of the deployed AI systems, to ensure compliance with ARPC’s AI Policy and adherence to key processes and controls.

Compliance with Legislation and Regulations

  • We have established robust processes and risk management strategies. ARPC’s AI Policy aligns with the Australian Government’s Policy for responsible use of AI in government - which ARPC has voluntarily adopted.
  • ARPC’s AI usage complies with Australian legislation, such as data privacy and anti-discrimination laws.
  • Our Information Security Policy broadly aligns with ARPC’s Protective Security Policy Framework (PSPF) and Information Security Manual (ISM).
