Senior Advisor Risk Mitigation

Purpose of the role 

The purpose of this role is to plan, execute and implement ARPC’s insurance risk mitigation strategy:

  • project manage a long term (multi-year) project,
  • facilitate the drafting and execution of a proposed risk mitigation project with Standards Australia,
  • document risk mitigation project deliverables using well developed business writing, and
  • engage (e.g. hold meetings) with external stakeholders and represent ARPC

Project management

  • Lead the execution of risk mitigation projects and initiatives (including project management planning, executing and controlling) which support the achievement of strategic goals and success criteria established by the ARPC leadership team:
    • Initiate and develop a risk mitigation framework and maintain momentum through to complete establishment of the framework
    • Lead the research, design, testing and modelling of possible risk mitigation frameworks aimed at underpinning alternative reinsurance pricing structures
    • Lead the initiation, development and embedding of an Australian risk mitigation handbook certification (through Standards Australia)
    • Collaborate with the ARPC leadership team to build a strategy for creating a culture of major corporate entity adherence to the Australian risk mitigation standard or resilience certification
    • Document the risk mitigation strategies, frameworks and processes in alignment with the needs of key stakeholders (ARPC Board, Senior Leadership Team, cedants etc.)
    • Draft technical documents used as the basis for a risk mitigation handbook or standard
  • Liaise with external consultants to support any additional needs (outside of ARPC’s core areas of risk mitigation capability), such as advice and guidance from consulting engineers regarding the practicality and cost effectiveness of current and emerging risk mitigation opportunities
  • Draw on the broader ARPC team to assist with project deliverables
  • Report progress and possible obstacles and solutions to ARPC Senior Executives in a timely manner
  • Include appropriate ARPC Senior Executives in stakeholder relationships

Content development

  • Research and understand the potential insurance risks which may impact property portfolios for which ARPC’s reinsurance scheme applies
  • Research and develop knowledge of local and global insurance risk mitigation trends which may present as opportunities for ARPC to improve risk mitigation strategies relevant to ARPC’s insured property portfolios
  • Maintain a database of relevant subject matter content which can be drawn upon for a range of stakeholder awareness and educational initiatives such as publications, ARPC cedant conferences etc.

Stakeholder awareness and education

  • Share knowledge of risk mitigation strategies, frameworks and processes (including opportunities and risks) with the Chief Underwriter and the ARPC Leadership Team to support the ongoing development and refinement of insurance risk mitigation strategies
  • Engage with stakeholders during execution of the project and rally support from insurers and property owners
  • Support the Communications team to:
    • establish appropriate market touchpoints (such as publications)
    • monitor and report on opportunities for enhancing communication content
    • improve market reach (improved connection with relevant stakeholders)
  • Actively seek opportunities to share knowledge internally with ARPC staff
  • Demonstrate initiative to promote ARPC’s strategic initiatives


  • Lead and participate in ARPC Corporate projects as and when opportunities arise

Qualifications and experience


  • Tertiary qualification in Business or Commerce Desired

Experience (minimum type and level of experience required to perform the role)

  • Substantial, demonstrated experience in insurance risk management Mandatory

Working knowledge of financial services (insurance, reinsurance and/or banking) Mandatory
